Trilateral Head Operation Guide

A trilateral head, often used in Very Narrow Aisle (VNA) trucks, allows for the lateral movement of the forks, enabling efficient loading and unloading of pallets from either side of the aisle. Here is a comprehensive guide for operating a trilateral head:

  1. Preparation

Before operating the VNA truck with a trilateral head, conduct a pre-operation inspection to ensure the truck and trilateral head are in good working condition. Check the hydraulic system for any leaks or wear, inspect the forks for any damage and ensure they are securely attached to the trilateral head, and verify that all control mechanisms and safety devices are functioning correctly. Additionally, clear the aisles and work area of any obstacles, ensure the aisles are wide enough for the VNA truck with a trilateral head to maneuver safely, and verify that there are no other personnel or equipment in the immediate working area.

2. Operating Steps

Operators must be trained and certified to use VNA trucks with trilateral heads and must wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) such as safety helmets, gloves, and safety shoes. Regular maintenance checks and servicing should be performed according to the manufacturer’s recommendations, and any malfunctions or issues should be reported immediately. The truck should not be operated if it is unsafe.

Familiarize yourself with the truck's emergency stop button and other safety features. In case of an emergency, use the emergency stop button to halt the truck immediately, follow the warehouse’s emergency procedures, and notify the relevant personnel.

4. Precautions

When handling loads with a VNA truck, do not exceed the truck's rated load capacity and ensure loads are evenly distributed and stable before moving. Avoid carrying loads that obstruct your view, using spotters if necessary. Drive at a safe speed, avoid sharp turns, and use horn signals when approaching intersections or blind spots. Be aware of other workers and equipment in the area, maintaining clear communication with your team. Ensure the floor surface is even and free of debris, be cautious of changes in floor conditions such as wet or slippery areas, and maintain proper lighting in the work area to ensure visibility.

By following these guidelines, operators can safely and efficiently use VNA trucks equipped with trilateral heads to enhance warehouse productivity and maintain a safe working environment. Always refer to the manufacturer's manual for specific instructions and safety information tailored to your particular equipment model.
